The Teignbrigde and Torbay Home Education Group has moved to Facebook

The Teignbridge and Torbay Home Education Group is still very active, even though there haven't been any posts on here for ages!
Sorry, life has just got rather full for us, as our children have grown up and our families and commitments have expand.

We now have a very active Facebook group, where local home educators can come for support, share home education related information and get details of our weekly meets.

Please note this a closed Facebook group, so when you ask to join you will be sent a private message which you need to reply to before we add you to the group and it will probably go to your 'Other Messages' on Facebook.

If you'd like to join the group please follow this link:

We look forward to hearing from you and if you have any problems joining our group please click here to email me

Sorry its been so quiet...

Those of you who know Julia and/or I, in the real or virtual world, will already know that we've both been very busy with moving plans/moving and its set to get even busier for me into December!  Good news though, we're both staying in Devon and this group is still very active, we just haven't had time to up date these web pages.  There'll be more news about future meets coming soon and at present I'm the main contact for the group. For those of you who already come along to our meets, you can request to join our Teignbridge and Torbay Home Educators Groups on Face Book and/or Yahoo, for more information about future meets and discussion.
Happy home educating

Contact for more details.

Thank you...

Thank you to everyone that managed to get to the group on Monday.  Me and my gang really enjoyed chatting with everyone - some rather interesting and thought-provoking conversations went on me thinks!

Who would have thought that Decoy could be so much fun in the rain?  I'm really glad the weather didn't put many off.  There were 11 families this week, with 17 children between them.

Next Monday (23rd July) we are doing a Teignbridge beach trip, with a nature reserve trek too.  If you need more details of location please contact

It has been decided that we will continue to meet over the school summer holiday period, particularly as some of the other groups cease during that time.  We will be trying to visit places that are off the tourist trail most weeks, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be grateful.  Please bear in mind that we do try to cater for those without transport, so a place on bus or train routes is preferable.

Those of you on our Facebook Group will already be aware that we are looking at doing a resources session.  This will probably be held in a local library (just sorting that out) with the idea being that we share ideas and experiences with others.  If you can recommend any books or have completed projects you've enjoyed or whatever, it might be a nice way to help others - particularly those new to home-education.  If you want to share how you plan things or your daily routine etc, that might be of help too as I'm sure we would be able to see how much variety there is in the home-ed methods used.  Any thoughts or questions, please have a chat with Julia (email as above).

Not back to school picnic time is here again - Monday 10th September 2012.  More details to follow, but if you are in a rush to find out more contact Julia as before.

Dates for your Diary.

30th January - Walk around Teignbridge. Meet at 11am. Cancelled due to illness and bad weather forecast.

6th February - A visitor attraction in Cornwall. £5 per person.  11am, meeting outside the entrance. Please exchange mobile number with someone so we can meet inside if late.

13th February - Crab Lining in Torbay, including a (possible) paid visit to an educational attraction.  11am.

20th February. The old favourite park in Newton Abbot.

27th February. A little out of our area, but a trip to a National Trust Property. I'm not arranging this as a visit at this time of year, so normal NT admission prices apply. Free entry to NT members of course. 11am at the entrance in the courtyard.

5th March.  An attraction in Paignton.  Admission rates apply. 11am at the front entrance.

Sorry for the vagueness of the location details but I'm sure you understand this is a public blog open for all to see.

If you want to know more details of these meetings, please email me at and I'll be happy to talk to you.

I am currently looking into the possibility of hiring a venue for regular(fortnightly or monthly?) meetings.  These will probably take place on a Thursday and will incorporate art sessions, science experiments, craft ideas, and whatever else the children wish to do.  We are looking for a venue around the Newton Abbot area, but are open to suggestions elsewhere.  The location must be accessible for those that use public transport, and preferably have easy parking for members with cars.
